Willow Counseling Center | Tyler, TX
Self-Pay Counseling in Tyler, TX
Private, in-person counseling with Denise Hazen, LPC. No insurance claim, and no diagnosis sent to an insurer.
What self-pay means
You pay Willow directly. Your insurer is never part of it.
Self-pay means you pay Willow Counseling Center directly for your sessions instead of using health insurance. Because no claim is filed, your insurer does not receive a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or notes about why you came in.
It also keeps the decision to start counseling in your hands. You do not have to explain it to a benefits department, and an explanation of benefits will not arrive in the mail or on a shared account.
Why people choose self-pay
Three reasons self-pay fits
Privacy From Your Insurer
No claim means no diagnosis code added to your insurance file.
Freedom to Set the Pace
Insurers can require a diagnosis and limit the number of sessions. With self-pay, you and Denise decide the focus and the length of your counseling.
A Cost You Know Up Front
You know the fee before your first session. There is no deductible to meet and no surprise bill later.
Careers under review
Self-pay counseling for police, military, and other careers under review
Some careers carry extra scrutiny. Officers, service members, first responders, and people in licensed or security-sensitive roles often worry about how a diagnosis or treatment history could be viewed later in a job review, a credentialing process, or a legal proceeding. Many choose self-pay for that reason.
Paying out of pocket keeps your counseling out of your insurance file. It is a practical way to get support without creating an insurance claim.
Self-pay is a common choice for
- Police officers, firefighters, EMS, and other first responders
- Service members, veterans, and military families
- Professionals in licensed or credentialed roles
- Anyone who prefers that no diagnosis appear in an insurance file
- People without insurance or with a high deductible
What self-pay does not change
Self-pay does not make your counseling record disappear. Denise keeps clinical records as the law requires, and in some situations those records can be requested through legal process. Confidentiality also has limits, such as a risk of serious harm and mandatory reporting duties.
Denise will go over these limits with you at your first visit so you know exactly where the lines are. If an employer, court, or agency has ordered or requested your counseling, ask us before booking, because reporting requirements may apply.

Questions
Self-pay counseling questions
Will my insurance company know I am in counseling?
When you pay without using insurance, no claim is filed, so we send nothing to your insurer. [If HSA or FSA cards are accepted: A counseling charge may appear to your plan administrator, so check their rules before paying that way.]
Is self-pay counseling confidential?
Yes, with legal limits. Counseling is confidential, except in situations such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, mandatory reporting duties, or a valid court order. Denise reviews these limits with you at your first visit.
Can my counseling records be requested in a court case or a review?
Denise keeps clinical records as the law requires. In some situations, records can be requested through legal process. She will not release them without your written consent or a legal requirement, and she can explain your options. If you are involved in a legal matter, talk with your attorney as well.
Will a diagnosis still be in my file?
Denise's clinical records may include her assessment of your needs. That record stays with Willow and is not sent to an insurer. She is glad to explain what it contains if you ask.
Can I get reimbursed by my insurance for self-pay sessions?
[If superbills are offered: We can provide a receipt, called a superbill, to submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. A superbill includes a diagnosis code that your insurer will see, so submitting one gives up the insurer privacy described on this page.] [If not offered: We do not provide superbills for self-pay sessions.]
How much does self-pay counseling cost?
The fee is [$___ for a ___-minute session]. [Sliding scale sentence, if offered.] Willow also works with some insurance plans: [list or link to the insurance page].
